Island Partners

Vashon Park District is proud to work in partnership with a variety of Island groups, from parent-run youth sports organizations to the Vashon Youth Council for teens and various arts organizations for music and theatre. Some are Park District programs which share facilities and administrative duties with the Park District. Some simply use Park District facilities and share the Park District's mission of bringing healthy recretional activities to our community.

Here are a few:

Vashon Junior Civic Ballet - VJCB was formed in 1980 under the direction of Betsy Frazee and became a Vashon Park District program in 2000.

Their mission is to provide dance performance opportunities for Island youth, regardless of their prior experience or affiliation with other dance programs. They also have opportunities for support roles, ie backstage, lighting, music, and more, so youth can be involved in a staged production. Learn more at www.vashonballet.homestead.com

Development of Island Teens (DOIT) -- Development of Island Teens (DOIT) is a catalyst that supports and develops the unique potential and contributions of Vashon Island youth through funding of activities by and for youth, educating the community about youth empowerment, and advocating on behalf of youth. Among other programs, DOIT helps to fund the Vashon Park District's Indoor Skate Park and the Vashon Youth Council, both Park District programs. Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust (VMILT)-- The Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust was founded in 1990 by a dedicated group of islanders who were concerned about preserving Vashon and Maury. Since that time, it has been instrumental in the acquisition and permanent preservation of hundreds of acres of carefully chosen property on Vashon and Maury. Furthermore, due to the Forest Stewardship class, another 3000+ acres have been enrolled in a semi-preserved status with the King County current use taxation programs.
