Happy Anniversary!
This year, 2009, Vashon Park District marks 25 years of service to the community.
To celebrate, we're offering VPD Silver Dollars – certificates you can purchase for loved ones -- or yourself -- to use on Vashon Parks and VPD programs. Buy VPD Silver Dollars in $25 increments and put them toward a special exercise program for your spouse or make a deposit toward renting Pt. Robinson for your daughter’s wedding. VPD Silver Dollars are as good as any other dollars, as long as you use them at the Park District.
Purchase VPD Silver Dollars in person at the Park District offices in Ober Park. They are not available online, but if you call with payment information, we can mail them to you.

Wake Up: The World’s On Fire!
A Truth Be Told Theatre Production Rounds Out the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Series by Vashon Island Prevention and Intervention Team, May 21 & 22.
Join Vashon Youth Council and others as we highlight community perspectives and candid youth interviews about youth substance use on the island. This documentary theatre performance is meant to generate discussion about the communication, perceived norms, use and non-use around this topic. If you missed the Truth Be Told Theatre production of "Now Hear This" last year you are not going to want to miss "Wake Up: The World’s On FIre!" Public performances will be held at McMurray Middle School on May 21 and 22nd at 7pm with a discussion to follow. Free admission. For more information check out www.vashonyouthcouncil.org or call Vashon Youth Council at 206-463-7350.
Dream Projects Program
This ongoing program of VYC has really picked up in the last month. If you are a youth or an adult who has an idea of something you would like to do, like starting a newspaper, combating an environmental issues, creating a media show, hosting an event or an open mic, the Dream Projects Program is for you! If you don't have an idea but have things you are passionate about, contact us and we can help you come up with something! Check out our website at www.vashonyouthcouncil.org and click on Dreams for more information about the Dream Project Program. Everybody has a dream!
VYC at Vashon Flea Market
Saturdays, 9 am-5pm
As you may have seen there is a new flea (market) in town next to Pandora's Box. The generosity of flea market manager Sheila McGuffin includes a portion of the proceeds from the flea market booths going to Vashon Youth Council. Check the message from Maury the Flea on how you can be a part of the Flea Market.
And now a word from Maury the Flea...
This is Maury the Flea, the little guy with the big heart, and the official mascot, here to encourage you, or anyone you may know, to become a vendor at the Vashon Flea Market. In the past month, the Vashon Flea Market has averaged over 300 visitors per weekend which generated a lot of sales for our vendors. Most of our happy vendors earned back much more than they paid for their space.
In addition, we are now accepting reservations for the Strawberry Festival at rates much lower than the street vendors will pay. Just imagine, over a 6,000 people visiting your booth!
So come and participate at the Flea Market. Enjoy conversation, a community gathering place, and cool goods. Remember, its always FREE to visitors!
