Tang Soo Do – Summer Special

Tang Soo Do’s seasoned instructor, Elisabeth Jellison is teaching a combined class this summer -- for all ages. From July 1 through Aug. 31, Tang Soo Do – traditional Korean martial art -- will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-7:30P only at Ober Park. This abbreviated summer class will be adjusted to accommodate Beginners, Advanced Beginners and Adults in one session. Students can purchase punch cards for the summer at $10 per class, or drop in for $12. Payment plans are available for in person registrants. Six-class punch cards can be purchased online.

Vashon Kung Fu instructor Levin Pugsley will continue teaching this highly effective self defense and physical conditioning system through September 30. New students are welcome to register for his ongoing classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 6-8P in the Ober Performance Room. Girls' Fastpitch Instructional Season

Softball-loving girls, grades K through 6, can take advantage of this great opportunity to learn about the "big time" of fastpitch softball from two experts. Jennifer Sullivan and Steve Mueller will lead the teams through skill-building techniques, rules reviews and games. Come prepared to have fun! Bring a snack and water bottle.

The teams will meet Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:30 to 5PM at the McMurray South Field starting Tuesday, April 15 through Friday May 30.
Fee is $55 for the entire season.

Vashon Island Soccer Club - FALL 2008 League Registration

Open registration for the Fall 2008 League began May 1 and ends May 31. Please visit the Vashon Island Soccer Club website at vashonsoccer.org for more information, including registration fees, age based team formation and league descriptions. It is recommended that you register early, some teams do fill up and the date you register during open registration may determine your player's team placement. Registrations after May 31 will incur a $10 late fee.
The U-14 Girls team is full and registration closed as of May 8, 2008.

Spring Sunday Soccer Clinics -- Drop in!

These FREE drop-in sessions are run by experienced Vashon Island Soccer Club coaches and they’re created to give motivated kids an opportunity to improve their skills without the pressure of games. Each session will include technical instruction and casual games organized by age group.
Sunday Soccer Clinics happen 3-4:30 P at the Old Vashon Elementary School Field. Boys and girls ages U8 through U10 are welcome. Remaining clinic Sundays are May 18 and 25.

Vashon Soccer Club Spring Academy 2008

This Spring the Vashon Soccer Club will have a great opportunity for kids in 5th-8th grades (those who played U11 – U14 last fall) to build their individual skills in an academy-type setting. Scott Nelson, a National Licensed coach from Tacoma, will run 6 sessions every Friday evening from April 18th to May 23rd. The 7th – 8th grade (U13 & U14) session will be from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm and the 5th – 6th grade (U11 & U12) session will run from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. Location: Vashon High School Practice Field (behind the baseball fields)

Summer is Made for Swimming

Vashon Aquatic Club (VAC) moves the swim team to the outdoor pool for the summer session, and expands the program with more hours in the water and more class options. This year’s Summer Session runs June 9th through August 8th at the King County Pool.

New Swimmer evaluations happen at the Vashon Athletic Club pool:
10 & under -- Tuesday, May 27, 5-6:00P
11 & over -- Wednesday, May 28, 4:30-5:30P

Open Registration starts Monday, June 2 at Vashon Park District’s Ober Park offices and closes June 27th or when classes are full. Park District offices are open 8A-4P week days. Class sizes are extremely limited, so register early. Ask about reduced fees for qualifying families through the Park District.
Level 3-5 swimmers (11 & older) swim 2 hours a day, five days a week at $440/session
Level 1-2 (6-11yrs) swimmers swim 1 hour a day, 3 days a week at $260/session

Dryland training is available for swimmers over age 11 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Separate enrollment is required and details are available on the Vashon Aquatic Club website. Experts Aaron Nemec and Brad Sherman are teaching new skateboarders basic form and a few tricks. Just drop in.

Helmets are COOL, required and available for use at the Skate Park. Bring your own board.

Vashon Park District will gladly refund program fees when they are requested a minimum of 7 business days prior to the program start date. Refunds requested fewer than 7 business days prior to the program start date will be provided only for a documented medical reason or as the result of a significant family emergency. For each refund issued, no matter the reason, Vashon Park District will assess a $25 administration fee. THANK YOU!
