Pinto Clinic!
Friday March 26 th and Sunday March 28th, 2010
Nike Field 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM $30 for both days
For kids moving up to the Pinto League from T-ball, this clinic will be an excellent opportunity to learn new rules and skills that will help them succeed in this big step up. This clinic is open to any 7-8 year olds, and will be taught by volunteer coaches with experience in this league. You must pre-register. Forms will be available in mid-February and On-line. If your daughter is 7 or 8 years old she should be registered for the Pinto league where she will play machine-pitch baseball. This will allow us to have several balanced teams of boys and girls where all will be able to develop their baseball playing skills.
Pony League
This league is for players 13-14 years old and is held on a try out basis. There is more information on the VYBS website, at Vashon Park District and at McMurray School. Pony practices/Tryouts will be held in mid-March at the VHS field. There will be 3 try out dates and a player MUST attend 2 of the 3 to be considered. Depending upon turnout, there will be one or two Pony League teams. Players not selected for a Pony team will be assigned to a team in the Bronco League to further refine their skills and enable them to play.
Summer Traveling Team(s)
So far we have a commitment from some volunteer coaches to have a select team the Bronco Level (11-12 year olds) for extra play during the summer. Depending upon coach availability, it is possible that there will be traveling teams at the Mustang and Pony levels as well. More information will be available as it occurs on VYBS.org and at Vashon Park District. Tryouts will be in May. Extra fees do apply for these select teams.

Here's how it works --
If girls have multiple spring activities going on that make joining fastpitch difficult, coach Jay Hammond has made it easy.
5-6 year-old girls play T ball with the boys
7, 8 and 9-year-old girls can join the Island development league with open, clinic-like practices FOUR days a week starting March 8. So, girls can come as often as their schedules -- and their desires to play -- allow. Coach Hammond will break these practice groups into teams closer to the start of the season, allowing maximum flexibility for girls who want to play Fastpitch.
10-year-old girls make up the travel team, which will be fielded when enough skilled players are availble. Otherwise, players will be distributed among other teams. Early practice opens with the develoment leageue on March 8 until teams are established.
11 & 12-year-old travel teams will play half their games off island. Early practice opens with the develoment league on March 8 until teams are established.
Important Dates for Fastpitch --
March 8 -- Open Practices start: Clinic style for all ages Mondays and Thursdays, 3:30 - 5:00P, McMuray Field. Come as often as you like. Coach Hammond will be there and will be looking for help. These open practices will continue until teams are established.
March 14 -- Pitching Clinic: 12:00 - 4:00P in the VHS gym. Jessica Cabato, Head Coach for Olympic College in Bremerton will visit Vashon for just one day to help girls improve their fast pitch power and accuracy.
March 21 -- Hitting Clinic: 12:00 - 4:00P at the VHS gym. Check back here for more information.
March 28 -- Fielding Clinic: 12:00 - 4:00P at the VHS gym. This is an opportunity to improve glove and throwing skills, field grounders and fly balls.Check back here for more information.
