Commissioner’s Position Open
Park District Commission Chair, Mike Collins, will move from Vashon and vacate his Board position this fall. This leaves an opening on the Commission to be filled by appointment. If you ‘ve ever considered serving as a Park Commissioner, now is the perfect time to start attending meetings—second Tuesday of every month, 7PM at Ober Park. Learn about the budget process, find out what it means to be a commissioner and if you like what you learn, submit a letter of interest.
Remaining commissioners will appoint Collins’ replacement after considering all applicants. The newly appointed interim commissioner will serve until the general election of 2011. The Park District Board of Commissioners will start the critical draft operations budget review at their October meeting, Tuesday, October 12, and finish with a recommendation in December.

The Pool Committee continues to meet regularly to expedite the process and programming . If you're interested in joining the Pool Committee to plan for next summer, contact Executive Director Wendy Braicks to be added.
The Committee will be reviewing the Pool Feasibility Study as well as comments and feedback from this summer's users to develop next season's schedules and programs.

Park and School Districts Combine Resources
With the new Interlocal Agreement between Vashon Island School District and Vashon Park District, major decisions about school grounds as they are used by the community will be the purview of the newly created Vashon Commons Committee. This is how the Interlocal Agreement addresses creation of the Vashon Commons Committee:

VPD Seeks A Gymnastics Instructor
We’ve got the space. We can get the equipment. All we need is a good gymnastics teacher. Could that be you?
Vashon Park District is seeking a gymnastics instructor to teach tumbling and floor work to children from toddler age through third grade. We've had requests for a Dog Agility Training class. Are you qualified to teach this very popular sport? We can provide you with space and administrative sport, class registration and publicity. Visitors to our Skate Park are asking more frequently for lessons in Inline Skating. Are you a proficient inline skater? Can you teach others? Please let us know if you're interested in starting a class April 1. Deadline for creating a class is February 15.
