King County is Closing the Vashon Pool
VPD is working with the community to keep it open
Here's the latest:
The Vashon Pool Committee, headed by VPD Executive Director Wendy Braicks, has comissioned a business plan for continued operation of the Vashon Pool. King County has pledged $75,000 in cash support of the pool, and VPD Maintenance Supervisor, Tim Lafferty, has commandeered some valuable pool maintenance equipment.
Braicks has said, "The Park District is moving ahead as if we can manage the pool, and we'll continue that way unless the business plan shows us it's impossible."

Park and School Districts Combine Resources
With the new Interlocal Agreement between Vashon Island School District and Vashon Park District, major decisions about school grounds as they are used by the community will be the purview of the newly created Vashon Commons Committee. This is how the Interlocal Agreement addresses creation of the Vashon Commons Committee:

All meetings of the Vashon Commons committee are open to the public and all interested folks are encouraged to join the group.

Park District and Sports Groups Work to Develop Fields
at former Vashon Elementary School Site
Vashon Park District and representatives from its associated youth sports groups have been meeting to develop the old Vashon Elementary field areas into a multi-use sport facility. A master plan was adopted in 2007, and the group is moving ahead on that basis. Click here for the most current meeting minutes.

Opportunities at Vashon Park District
Our beloved yoga teacher is leaving. Are you qualified to teach yoga?
VPD has an opening for a qualified yoga teacher, starting January 1, 2010. This is a contract position. Instructors determine their fees and share a portion with the Park District in exchange for space, insurance, promotion and administration of your class. All you have to do is teach. Vashon Park District is seeking a gymnastics instructor to teach tumbling and floor work to children from toddler age through third grade. Visitors to our Skate Park are asking more frequently for lessons in Inline Skating. Are you a proficient inline skater? Can you teach others? Please let us know if you're interested in starting a class April 1. Deadline for creating a class is February 15.
