"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has." – Margaret Mead
Vashon Park District welcomes and encourages volunteers for our programs, stewardship groups, and work parties. We believe volunteers are essential to helping achieve VPD's mission, and we appreciate these people who reach beyond their daily responsibilities to contribute valuable time and service to the Park District. We encourage and support volunteers by providing what we hope are fulfilling experiences full of mutual benefit to the park system, park users, and volunteers.
In order to protect our interests, our children, and our volunteers themselves, all volunteers are required to complete a Volunteer Packet, which includes a personal information sheet, Volunteer Code of Ethics & Rules, a liability waiver, and a background check required by state law for any volunteer having regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children or vulnerable adults. You may print out these forms to review or complete on your own time prior to visiting our Ober Park offices for the last few pieces of paperwork and an assignment. Once this packet is completed, please return it to our Ober Park offices. All Volunteer Packets must be completed and turned in before you may participate in any VPD volunteer program.
There are always opportunities to participate as a volunteer, including:
- Youth Athletics Coach
- District-wide special events volunteer
- Land steward - invasive plants monitoring and removal
- Musician, face painter, crafts specialist
- Recreation volunteer: programs, races & events
- Site enhancement volunteer
- Summer camp volunteer
- Wildlife Survey Volunteer
Park District volunteers are expected to abide by VPD policies and procedures and external regulations that govern their actions, including but not limited to those relating to ethical behavior, safety, confidentiality, computer use, financial responsibility, and drug use.
VPD Volunteers are not covered by the Fair Labor Standard Act and are not considered employees for any purpose. Therefore, they are not eligible for compensation or any VPD benefits except for workers’ compensation benefits as a result of this volunteer association.
If you're under under the age of 18, you must obtain parental consent to volunteer.
