Vashon Park District volunteers serve in many different ways, all valuable to the Park District and the community. Without its volunteers, the Park District would be a much less diverse island resource.
In these pages we will showcase volunteers who represent some of the great variety of service performed by those who give their services to the Park District. These people are selected as examples of what's being done. This list is in no way comprehensive, nor is it intended to exclude any of our dedicated Park District supporters.
Gordon Millar -- Poster Boy
When he learned that the Park District's 2010 and 2011 budgets were considerably shrunken, Gordon offered to be the 'official' distributor of posters for VPD programs and events. He's been our "Poster Boy" ever since. He does it for free. He does it cheerfully, and he's totally reliable. He even takes an interest in making sure VPD posters are well placed from a marketing perspective, and he's an outstanding ambassador.
Captain Joe Wubbold -- Uber Keeper at Pt. Robinson
For uncountable years, Captain Joe has steered the Pt. Robinson stewards through the smooth and sometimes choppy waters of restoring the Pt. Rob lighthouse and keepers' quarters to their turn of the century glory. He supports and sustains the work of the Keepers of Pt. Robinson with his strength, enthusiasm and exceptional leadership skills. And, if you want a great tour -- with historical and humorous narrative -- book a Lightouse tour with Captain Joe. Just call him at 206-463-6672.
Shelley Dillon -- B.A.R.C. ing for Island kids
Through thick and thin, Shelley Dillons has been a stalwart -- and active -- supporter of the Indoor Skate Park at Burton Adventure Recreation Center, and she has donated untold hours of time and energy to fund-raising for the planned outdoor Skate Park at Burton Adventure Recreation Center. Shelley is unflagging in her enthusiasm for the outdoor skate park and for creating healthy alternative activities for Island youth.
