Vashon Park District volunteers serve in many different ways, all valuable to the Park District and the community. Without its volunteers, the Park District would be a much less diverse island resource.
In these pages we will showcase volunteers who represent some of the great variety of service performed by those who give their services to the Park District. These people are selected as examples of what's being done. This list is in no way comprehensive, nor is it intended to exclude any of our dedicated Park District supporters.
Dr. Lon Hoover -- Keeper of Tramp Harbor
For years, Dr. Hoover has quietly taken it upon himself to clean up trash at our tiny Tramp Harbor dock and park. He's never asked for anything more than trash bags sufficient to handle the waste left by visitors to the dock. Next time you see Lon, thank him for improving the scenery at Tramp Harbor.
Debra Brown and her daughter-- Inspired by Inspiration Point
Former Park Commissioner Debra Brown couldn't undo her attachment to the Island's parks, so two years ago she and her daughter became "Stewards of Inspiration Point," the tiny view turnoff south of Burton. These two women keep the Point clean, weed-free and trimmed so visitors can enjoy the view year-round.
Lynne Chunn -- Organization Behind the Art
For longer than anyone can count, Lynne Chunn has made sure dancers in Vashon Junior Civic Ballet have costumes, money, a theatre to perform in, practice space and a set. As back-up to creative director, Betsy Frazee, Lynne has devoted large chunks of her life to assure that any Vashon youngster who wants to dance gets to dance. Wave at that smiling face behind the scenes next time you take a fanciful journey through the Nutcracker courtesy Junior Civic Ballet.
